Our Annual Exhibition is held in mid July annually with an Extravaganza Opening Night on the Friday. It then runs every day from 11am to 5pm (late night Wednesday till 7pm) closing the Sunday 10 days later at 3pm. It runs in conjunction with the Gore Hokonui Fashion Awards on the closing weekend so that many people from around the country can attend both. This year our 47th annual exhibition runs from Friday 17th July (Opening Night) through to Sunday 26th July.

Today, the Exhibition is a ‘must see’ event on the provinces’ Arts calendar, annually showcasing more than 500 artworks from over 80 artists, in a wide variety of mediums. The Exhibition is for invited artists from throughout New Zealand along with our own local artists also able to exhibit. One of the many drawcards for artists is such a varied high standard of artwork viewed by a large audience from Otago and Southland and also our policy of paying for return freight on unsold exhibits. For such a small town (approx. 400) our exhibition in our large community centre is quite unique. Many of our artists travel to attend Opening Night.
Emerging Artist Award: $1000 prize awarded on opening night from a limited selection of works displayed for the duration of the exhibition. For details and an entry form to enter these awards click here.
Gift Shop: Is a cash and carry adjoining room at the Exhibition featuring invited craftspeople and also invited Exhibition Artists with items of lesser value.
Yum – Pop up Café: run by Balfour Home and School on site during our exhibition period. Barista and great food served, lunches and afternoon tea’s. You can find them on facebook for daily specials during the Exhibition.
Art Classes: Our 2019 Classes are currently being organised. Follow us on facebook for further updates.
Childrens Art: Local schools and playgroups are invited to participate by displaying their work in the Mavor Room. All participating groups receive a book voucher.
Local Artists: Members from within the School boundaries (ie served by Riversdale, Balfour, Otama and Waikaia Schools) are invited to exhibit their work. Artists are required to pay $5 to become a member and then exhibit up to two items in the Exhibition or more in shop.Please contact us on our page for all details concerning commission and delivery. The Committee reserves the right to reject any work not considered up to standard.
